Answering Two of the Most Googled Spiritual Questions

Let’s take a look at two of the most Googled spiritual questions.

Here is the first: “Hasn’t the scientific endeavor shown that belief in God is unnecessary and unintelligent?”

I’m amazed at how many in this generation have chosen atheism over the belief that God exists. My amazement comes in the light of overwhelming scientific evidence for the existence of a Creator.

The word “science” is often seen as more than it is. It merely means “knowledge,” and there is basic commonsense knowledge that shows us that God exists.

Every building is evidence of a builder. We know this because we have knowledge that it’s without the realm of possibility for a building to build itself. If the original builder died 100 years ago, we still know he existed because (again) it’s impossible for a building to build itself. If this apologetic response seems a little simplistic for some, it has its roots in God’s Word: “For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God” (Hebrews 3:4).

“I’m amazed at how many in this generation have chosen atheism over the belief that God exists. My amazement comes in the light of overwhelming scientific evidence for the existence of a Creator.”

A similar thought applies to paintings. Every painting is scientific evidence (knowledge) that there was a painter. We know this because paintings can’t paint themselves. The artist may have died 500 years ago, but we still know there was a painter.

Creation is scientific evidence of the Creator. This is because it is impossible for nature to have made itself. When we look at trees, flowers, birds, the sun, the moon and the stars, puppies, kittens, the four seasons, the variety of fruits, male and female in all the species, the marvel of the human eye, the miracle of childbirth—all these things show us the divine hand. Every sunset and sunrise is the canvas of His artistic genius. The Scriptures say, “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1).

All it takes is a little logical thought. This is why Sir Isaac Newton, the “father of science,” said, “Atheism is so senseless.”

If you would like to instill these basic truths in your children, you may like to get The Way of the Master for Kids. Not only does it put these truths in a way that is understandable for kids, but it is also beautifully illustrated.

The second most Googled spiritual question is this: “Do you have to choose to trust in either science or faith? Can you trust both?”

“Creation is scientific evidence of the Creator. This is because it is impossible for nature to have made itself.”

There is a huge misunderstanding as to what it means to have faith in God. We know that the Creator exists because of the evidence of creation/nature. Therefore, faith in God isn’t welling up some sort of blind faith despite the so-called lack of evidence. Rather, when we speak of having faith in God, we are referring to trust in His integrity.

Every one of us exercises this type of faith regularly. We trust our lives to unseen pilots every time we fly. We don’t go up to the cockpit and demand a breathalyzer test be done on the pilots, nor do we want to see their credentials. No, we unquestioningly trust that they have the ability to fly us safely to our destination. We trust doctors, so much so that when they give us pills, we take them without a second thought as to their contents. We trust mechanics, dentists, brain surgeons, and complete strangers to prepare our food in restaurants. We trust our lives to the brakes of vehicles that we drive and to elevators to take us between floors. But elevators can let us down. Doctors can make deadly mistakes, and car brakes can fail.

However, God can never let you down. This is because of His impeccable integrity. The Bible says that it is impossible for Him to lie. That means you can trust His promises with all of your heart.

This isn’t bad news for atheists. It’s the opposite. It means that we don’t have to wait around for the Grim Reaper. We can have very real hope in our death. That’s the promise of the gospel.
