Christians shouldn’t view Christmas as just a day to give gifts or as a Pagan holiday to avoid. Christmas is an opportunity to show love to others and to share the gospel.

I wasn’t surprised recently to hear someone say that Princess Diana was the greatest person in history. It was a typical response from a world that doesn’t think too deeply. The youth was answering my question as to who the most influential person was who has ever been born. I had to explain to him that there was someone whose life was so significant that He split time in two. We take our time since His birth. There was one person in history who predicted that His words were so significant that they would never pass away. And, more than 2,000 years later, millions read His words daily. Plus, every year literally half the world actually stops working to celebrate His birthday. Jesus of Nazareth takes the cake. History’s greatest achievers achieved nothing compared to His life. That’s what we celebrate at Christmas. It’s a time for us to pull back from the roar of freeway traffic, ever-fluctuating gas prices, and a horribly depressing news cycle and quietly spend time with our precious loved ones.
“The days surrounding Christmas are a unique opportunity for us to share the gospel with the unsaved.”
Of course, there are those who are quick to say that Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus—that it’s a pagan celebration we should avoid. But that’s a matter of conscience. Each of us has the liberty to use that day to meet with our families, give each other gifts, enjoy good food, pray together, and celebrate the birth of the Savior.
But there’s an even more important aspect to that day. It’s a time when a sinful world—which gives little thought to Jesus for 364 days of the year—is open to hear:
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
The days surrounding Christmas are a unique opportunity for us to share the gospel with the unsaved. Living Waters exists to help you do just that. While it may be awkward for most people to bring up the gospel at the Christmas dinner table, we have great gifts that you can give to your loved ones, friends, coworkers, and neighbors, without any apology. Each of these gifts has been produced to tastefully yet uncompromisingly present the gospel. So, please take advantage of this unique opportunity to get the message of everlasting life to those who sit in the shadow of death.
I was delighted to work with a good friend who is an award-winning New York chef to produce this high-quality cookbook.
