The now infamous debate between Biden and Trump caused the media bubble to burst. Everyone, including Biden, said it was an epic fail, a really bad debate—a train wreck. The excuses of him having a cold and jet lag didn’t cut the mustard.
But no one is explaining from a biblical perspective the nature of the president’s real problem. While people have speculatively used labels like dementia or Alzheimer’s, Biden is actually dying before our eyes. And he’s not the only one. We are all dying from the moment we are born. Science World published an article titled “Born to Die: Why Do Humans Get Old?”—in which they said, “As we age, some of the inevitable symptoms include graying and thinning hair, loss of fertility, weakening bones, decreased brain function and losing our ability to hear and focus our eyes.”
“We are all dying from the moment we are born.”
Like a fragrant new rose, we blossom for a time, but then we tragically fall apart. Science has no real explanation as to why this happens. But here is the biblical explanation:
Just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12)
Most people don’t realize that death is an appointment. We can cancel an appointment with a dentist or a doctor, but there’s no getting out of this one:
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment… (Hebrews 9:27)
Another thing that most people don’t realize is that death is wages. Scripture says the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). In other words, God is paying us in death for our sins. It’s like a judge who has before him a criminal who has committed murder but keeps saying that he’s a good person. The judge says, “I’m going show you how serious your crime is. I’m giving you the death sentence. This is your wages. This is what you’ve earned.”
And sin is so serious to a holy God that He’s given us the death sentence. We are all on death row, and our death will be evidence to us that God is deadly serious about sin. What’s been happening to Joe Biden publicly will tragically happen to all of us privately.
However, God in His great mercy hasn’t left us without a wonderful hope in our death. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die” (John 11:25-26).
This promise of eternal life redefines death for believers. It destroys its sting. When we are born again, God puts His Spirit (the source of life) into the believer, and the indwelling Spirit of Christ conquers death—as light conquers darkness:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. (2 Corinthians 4:16)
