The Evidence Bible is an aesthetically beautiful resource. Ray Comfort and the Living Waters staff have done a masterful job providing insightful commentary that makes complex apologetics accessible. The companion guide is a highlight, offering practical tools for evangelism that you simply won’t find in a standard study Bible. It is clear that a lot of heart went into the pedagogical side of this work.
The Critique: The Masoretic vs. Septuagint Issue
Despite its strengths, the choice of the Masoretic Text for the Old Testament is a significant drawback. When put to a three-part litmus test—specifically regarding New Testament alignment, Christological clarity, and chronological consistency—the Masoretic Text falls short where the Septuagint (LXX) excels. Given that the New Testament authors overwhelmingly quoted from the Septuagint, its absence here feels like a missed opportunity for a Bible focused on “evidence.”
Final Verdict & Request
This is a fantastic tool for any believer, but it could be definitive with one change. I implore Ray Comfort and the Living Waters team to consider a future revision that utilizes the Septuagint for the Old Testament. Pairing the LXX’s historical accuracy with your existing world-class commentary would make this the ultimate resource for serious students of the Word.
