Atheistic evolutionists often try to attack creation, the Bible, or the character of God to keep people from asking questions of their religion. In other words, they attack Christianity in hopes of not having to defend their own worldview—mainly because they do not have good answers to defend their faith.
A good offense may be one of the best defenses you can give. For example, if someone criticizes you for believing that all humanity came from Adam and Eve, a good response could be, “You find it difficult to believe that all the people in the world came from two people, and yet you believe that all the people in the world came from a rock? At least we can demonstrate that people come from people…” Questions can be powerful, so here are a few that may help in a conversation.
Questions to clarify:
- What do you mean by evolution?
- What do you mean by science?
- How do you know that is true?
- Has that been observed?
Keep in mind that there are multiple definitions of evolution and science and you don’t want to get caught in a bait and switch. For example, evolution can mean simply change over time or molecules to-man evolution; and science can mean repeatable, observable knowledge or the philosophy of naturalism (which arbitrarily excludes any supernatural cause).
“If someone criticizes you for believing that all humanity came from Adam and Eve, a good response could be, “You find it difficult to believe that all the people in the world came from two people, and yet you believe that all the people in the world came from a rock? At least we can demonstrate that people come from people…””
Issue questions:
- Where did matter and energy come from?
- If everything came about by random processes, then why do laws of nature follow precisely designed formulas like F=ma or E=mc2?
- Where did life come from?
- Where is the evidence for the millions of information-gaining mutations?
- Where are the millions of transitional fossils leading up to the Cambrian period?
- What proof do you have that a global Flood could not have occurred? Has anyone repeated changing a single-celled organism, like an ameba, into something like a cow?
- What experiments have been conducted over “millions of years” that verify that it takes millions of years to form rock, sedimentary layers, diamonds, coal, stalactites, and other formations?
Worldview questions:
- If life is ultimately meaningless, then why are you arguing?
- If the material universe is all that there is, what makes you think that logic, truth, and information exist, since they are all non-material?
- If people are simply rearranged chemicals obeying laws of nature, how can anyone criticize what anyone else does?
- Why does the material universe follow immaterial laws?
- Which view of evolution do you believe?
- Lamarckian—Using traits leads to enhancement of those traits and new kinds.
- Traditional Darwinism—Natural selection acting over millions of years leads to new kinds.
- Neo-Darwinism—Natural selection and genetic mutations acting over millions of years leads to new kinds.
- Punctuated Equilibrium—Natural selection and genetic mutations acting in rapid bursts over millions of years leads to new kinds.
Of course, these are just a small sampling of questions that are good to ask. Keep in mind that such questions are to get evolutionists to realize their own professed worldview is false. The individuals are not the enemy—it is the false philosophies that have taken them captive that are the enemy. The unbelievers are made in the image of God and are candidates for salvation in Jesus Christ. So these questions must be asked with gentleness and respect (1 Pet. 3:15). In other words, we should show the same grace to other people that God showed toward us.
